Fortum invests in new power plant in Poland

14 December 2006 -- Fortum is building a new combined heat and power plant in Czestochowa, Poland. The value of the investment is around €95 million and is expected to be completed for production by the end of 2009.

The new power plant will use coal and biomass as fuels. The amount of biofuel can go up to 30 percent of the whole fuel mix. The production capacity will be approximately 120 MW of heat and 64 MW of electricity.

The plant will replace aging boilers and heat purchases from outside. Fortum said the transfer to combined heat and power generation will considerably increase energy efficiency compared with the separate generation of heat.

Fortum Czestochowa S.A. will be responsible for the new plant operation. The company is one of the four Fortum heat companies in Poland.
