8 December 2006 -- Recovered Energy Resources, Inc. (RER) announced today the signing of a contract with Siemens Building Technologies (SBT) to supply a gasification based waste-to-energy plant to produce 6 MW of electrical power for the Dyess Air Force Base (AFB) in Abilene Texas. The RER gasification plant will be an integral part of SBT's $39 million dollar contract with Dyess AFB to provide electricity through the gasification of municipal solid waste (MSW).
The RER engineered plant will gasify sorted MSW and produce a high temperature working heat source that will drive a proprietary organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system. The plant uniquely processes the MSW in a manner, which is cleaner than traditional incineration technologies. It will use all of the MSW collected from the City of Abilene in addition to the base generated waste. When complete, Dyess AFB will be able to remove itself from the public utility grid while maintaining 100 percent operational readiness.
"Dyess is setting an example for the Air Force and for the military in general, about to effect ways to minimize energy supply and enhance our national security mission. Their work to integrate these technologies shows a real desire to preserve and protect a positive relationship with their community (Abilene) and for the environment on water, energy and waste issues." said Assistant Secretary of Energy Alexander Karsner in a recent visit to the base.
