6 December 2006 -- Aggreko, a provider of temporary power generation and temperature control rental services, has completed its acquisition of GE Energy Rentals (GE-ER) from General Electric Co., expanding its generator fleet by 31 percent, and its chiller fleet by 28 percent.
Throughout 2006, there has been unprecedented demand for the Aggreko power rental fleet -- both in the Middle East and internationally. From the Aggreko International base in the Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, the company has supported the power rental and temperature control requirements of diverse sectors, ranging from construction and shipping to oil & gas and utilities. Recent projects include the installation of over 200 MW of temporary power to support the national grids of East African countries burdened by hydro-power shortages.
The process of integration is now underway. The GE-ER businesses in the UAE, Singapore, China and Australia will be absorbed into existing Aggreko depots. In Chile, Aggreko will be taking over the GE-ER facility in Santiago, as well as their bases in Antofagasta (Northern Chile) and Puerto Montt (Southern Chile). In Mexico City and Campinas (Brazil) Aggreko is opening new depots to take over the Energy Rental business from GE.
