Sargent & Lundy selected to perform baseload feasibility study

4 December 2006 -- Sargent & Lundy LLC has been selected by the city of Escanaba in Michigan, US, and Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI) to perform a feasibility study for a proposed new power plant. The City and WPPI are jointly exploring the feasibility of developing a baseload power plant in Escanaba to efficiently meet their future electrical capacity needs.

Sargent & Lundy will evaluate multiple plant size and technology options, including 60-MW, 150-MW, and 300-MW scenarios, to determine the most appropriate option for the site. The assessment will include site evaluation, preliminary design, and cost, schedule, and permitting requirements. The feasibility study will provide the detailed information needed for the City and WPPI to make a decision about whether to move ahead with a power plant.

Escanaba is considering a new power plant because its existing 50-year-old 26-MW coal-fired plant is not large enough to meet the City's growth into the future. WPPI needs more baseload generating resources to meet the growing needs of its members and to replace expiring electricity purchase contracts.
