GE to supply Jordan with gas turbine for plant expansion

15 November 2006 -- GE Energy will supply a Frame 9E gas turbine to Al Samra Electricity Production Co. for the expansion of a power plant that will help Jordan meet its increasing electricity demand, which is estimated to be increasing at a rate of approximately six percent a year.

The new machine will join two other GE Frame 9E gas turbines already operating at the site, which is approximately 30 kilometers from Amman, and will increase the plant's total output by 126 MW. Al Samra is owned by the government and the plant's power is provided to the state-owned National Electric Power Co.

The new Frame 9E is being manufactured at GE's gas turbine plant in Belfort, France and will be shipped in December of 2006. It will begin simple-cycle, commercial service in July of 2007, using natural gas as the primary fuel with distillate as a backup.

The scope of GE's turnkey contract for the Al Samra expansion also includes balance of plant equipment, installation, civil works and training.
