Mitsui Babcock wins Project Opticon contract with ScottishPower

3 November 2006 -- Mitsui Babcock announced that it has been awarded the Project Opticon contract to provide long term support to ScottishPower at their 2,400 MW Longannet and 1,200 MW Cockenzie Power Stations in the UK.

The 10-year combined Longannet and Cockenzie contract value is worth approximately £100 million to Mitsui Babcock. The initial contract term is 10 years for Longannet and 5 years for Cockenzie, with the opportunity for extension of the contract to run to the end of the remaining life of both stations.

The overall contract objective of the optimization is the provision of Contractor Services into both stations over the remainder of their productive life, in terms of health, safety, environment, quality, scope, schedule, cost and risk.

Mitsui Babcock has also been selected to be the Supplier Interface Management Services contractor, covering the overall management of suppliers across the entire suite of service providers under the Project Opticon scope.

In addition to the provision of term and outage maintenance services, Mitsui Babcock will be, via its Technology and Engineering department, working with ScottishPower in the development and delivery of appropriate Engineering and Technology led solutions in support of Scottish Powers' generation business and long term plans for these coal generation assets.
