Australia to finance world's largest solar power plant

30 October 2006 -- The Australian government said it is willing to provide A$57 million to develop what could be the world's largest solar power plant. Treasurer Peter Costello said the power plant would have the capacity to generate some 154 MW of solar power using mirrored panels to concentrate the sun's ray.

It is currently under construction at Mildura in the southeastern state of Victoria in Australia. The plant is scheduled to begin operations in 2008 and reach full capacity by 2013.
