Pratt & Whitney support Next Generation Scholarship Fund

10 October 2006 -- Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has pledged a $2,500 "Facilitator" donation to the Next Generation Scholarship Fund, which will provide college scholarships to students planning to pursue degrees in power engineering-related fields.

The Fund helps address the critical workforce development issue facing the power generation industry. It is supported entirely by tax-deductible donations from some of the power generation industry's most progressive companies. The Fund was established this year and will award its first scholarship next spring to coincide with the fall 2007 academic year.

Four industry leaders also have joined the Fund as members of its Steering Committee. Members include Joseph R. Nasal, P.E., Senior Vice President of Energy Services, General Physics Corporation; Robert E. Palmer, Manager of Marketing & Public Relations, Bechtel Power Corporation; Nancy Mohn, Director of Marketing & Strategy, Alstom Power; and Jamie Matlin, Director of PennEnergy JOBS.

The Steering Committee will review scholarship applications and select a recipient in the spring of 2007.

The Next Generation Scholarship Fund is run by the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS)—a 501 (c) (3) organization—with promotional support from Power Engineering magazine.

Corporate contributions to the Next Generation Scholarship Fund may be made at three levels: $5,000 Innovator Level; $2,500 Facilitator Level; and $1,000 Baseload Level. Details on giving—and the perks that go with each level of support—may be found at the JETS Web site at www.JETS.org, along with a pledge form.
