More gas for power in Delhi

9 October 2006 -- In a cabinet meeting decision, it was decided that India's national capital will start receiving nearly 10 million standard cubic meters per day (MMSCMD) of additional gas to generate 1,600 to 2,000 MW of power within the city.

The capital has been facing power shortages with demand reaching 4,000 MW during this year's summer, leaving a 900 MW shortfall. The capital is likely to have a demand of 6,000 MW of power by 2010, a government official said.

Currently, Delhi has two small gas-based power plants: Pragati-II and Bawana.
