9 October 2006 -- Egypt has plans to build a 1,000 MW nuclear power plant at El-Da'ba by 2015, top Egyptian energy authority officials said. The nuclear plant will cost between $1.5 to $2 billion and the government said it will look for foreign participation to help fund the project.
The decision came after Egyptian President Husni Mubarak publicly called for resuming the country's nuclear energy program in a speech given last month. After the announcement, the Egyptian Supreme Council for Energy took the decision to study the feasibility of introducing a civilian nuclear energy program. As it is, the demand for electricity continues to increase and is exceeding the development of new energy sources, Asia News International reported.
