FERC: Ameren unit to pay $15 mln over dam breach

3 October 2006 -- The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said Monday AmerenUE, a subsidiary of Ameren Corp., has agreed to pay a total of $15 million to settle an investigation related to the December 2005 breach of a dam at the Taum Sauk hydroelectric project in Missouri.

Under the terms of the settlement, AmerenUE has agreed to pay a $10 million civil penalty and to fund $5 million in improvements. The civil penalty is the largest FERC has ever imposed in a hydroelectric case. FERC staff had alleged that the company had committed 15 violations of regulations and license conditions
