Biomass power station to be built in Scotland

25 September 2006 -- A proposal has been announced to develop a Biomass Combined Heat and Power (CHP) station on former industrial land at Lochaber near Fort William in Scotland.

Energy specialist Tanaris Ltd. has signed an agreement with Alcan Aluminium UK Ltd., to develop the £30 million scheme on land owned by Alcan. The plant has been designed to operate on wood from locally sourced sustainable forestry.

The companies hope to begin construction in early 2007 with electricity being generated two years later. When fully operational, it will have an output of more than 18 MW of electricity.
