Australian hydro peaker is planned

19 September 2006 -- Australian energy retailer AGL reportedly will start work next month on an A$230 million, 140 MW hydroelectric station, expected to go into service by 2010.

The station will be the third-largest hydro plant in the Australian state of Victoria. The facility will operate as a peaking plant. It will generate power from the East Kiewa River, with no new dam required. It will be fed by a 6.5-kilometer tunnel from Mount McKay to Lake Guy, near Bogong.
