14 September 2006 -- REpower Systems AG has agreed to work with the Essar group, an industrial conglomerates in India, to build 1.5 MW wind turbines for the Indian wind energy market.

REpower Systems and Essar also intend to form a joint venture to produce REpower's 2.0 MW turbines in 2007. The contract territory of the planned joint venture "Essar REpower India" shall cover potential markets in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. REpower cited the large potential for wind power capacity in Asia and said India's market is the largest on the continent and the fourth largest wind market in the world.
