Indian govt. plans 'ultra mega' power project

13 September 2006 -- The government of Chennai state in India reportedly is considering two 5,000 MW power projects in Tamil Nadu. Details of each are being readied by the end of the year with the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) inducting state representatives to help resolve implementation issues.

PFC has reconstituted the Boards of Sasan and Mundra Ultra Mega Companies who will expedite issues with purchasers including signing of power purchase agreements which has already been finalized through a consortium involving bidders, purchasers, regulatory commissions and the central government.

Three other projects are expected to be awarded before mid-2007.
