11 September 2006 -- Development Company Limited (MADC) has awarded a contract to Mott MacDonald to design and project manage a new underground transmission and distribution network with a capacity to serve a peak load of 240 MVA near a major airport in India. This new network will support the development of a £125 000 million Special Economic Zone near Nagpur International Airport, located in central India between Mumbai and Delhi.
MADC is a government body responsible for airport development in the region and it is supporting this new 1450 hectare special economic zone to both boost the region's economy and to take advantage of the local abundant supply of coal and skilled human resource. The area will be a hub for IT sector businesses as well as specialty hospitals to serve patients mainly from the international business community. It has been designed to enhance the region's tourist and medical sectors.
The Mott MacDonald team has assisted the client in research, planning and design for the transmission and distribution network which includes indoor substations and cable routes as well as the tendering process for appointing contractors. MADC has also selected Mott MacDonald to project manage the building of the transmission network.

Mott MacDonald expects to complete the project in October 2007.
