India to help build 150 MW hydropower project in Nepal

11 September 2006 -- India is prepared to help Nepal build a 100 to 150 MW hydropower project, the government announced.

"We are prepared to consider providing support, through an appropriate financial model, for the development of a project in the range of 100 - 150 MW for Nepal's own use," Indian ambassador Shiv Shanker Mukherjee said at the Power Summit 2006 on Thursday.

He said India was also considering providing funds to rehabilitate and upgrade the Devighat hydropower project, which was built with New Delhi's assistance in the early 1980s.
