Duke Energy Indiana to purchase wind power

30 August 2006 -- Duke Energy Indiana has finalized an agreement to purchase up to 100 MW of wind-generated electricity from an Orion Energy wind farm under development in Benton County, Indiana, US.

"Clean, 'zero emissions' wind-generated energy will be a good addition to our resource portfolio," said Duke Energy Indiana President Kay Pashos. "This project will also boost the local economy in an area where conditions make wind power possible."

The 20-year agreement is the result of a request for proposals Duke Energy Indiana (then PSI Energy) issued for green energy resources in late 2005. Pending regulatory approval, Duke Energy Indiana will begin purchasing the power in 2007.
