West Virginia large wind farm overcomes opposition

29 August 2006 -- A large wind project in West Virginia was approved Monday, by the West Virginia Public Service Commission. Beech Ridge Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Invenergy LLC, plans to build up to 124 wind turbines in Greenbrier County, with the goal of producing 186 MW.

A group called Mountain Communities for Responsible Energy oppose the wind farm, claiming that it will harm wildlife and affect the mountain view. The Chicago Tribune reported that the group's officials said they would appeal to the state Supreme Court if the project was approved.
