24 August 2006 - Indonesia and Malaysia plan to complete a cross-border transmission line by 2009 at a cost of $38.5m.

State-owned electricity company PLN and its Malaysian counterpart Tenaga Nasional Berhad agreed to complete the construction and interconnection of transmission networks between West Kalimantan and Malaysia's Sarawak by 2009.

The agreement will be renewed next year and construction of distribution networks is expected to be completed two years later, Electricity and Energy Utilization director General J. Purwono following a meeting with Tenaga Nasional's officials.

The governments of the two countries first proposed the project in 1996. The 150 KV, 231 km transmission networks will cross the border in four connection points.
