Mitsui Babcock wins first NOx reduction contract in China

21 August 2006 - Mitsui Babcock today announced it has secured its first Boosted Overfire Air (BOFA) contract in China at Yaomeng Power Plant, PR China.

The contract will enable the plant owner - Henan Pingdingshan Yaomeng Power Generation Co., Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Power International Holding Limited - to comply with Chinese legislation requiring plant operators to reduce NOx emissions from 650mg/Nm3 to 450mg/Nm3.

Mitsui Babcock secured the contract in close collaboration with its strategic partner in the region for plant upgrade projects - China Power International Maintenance Company. The win signals a significant step in the formation of Mitsui Babcock's Plant Upgrade business in China.

John Prosser, Mitsui Babcock's Managing Director for Asia Pacific region commented: "Strategically, this is a very important win for Mitsui Babcock as it gives us access into the growing Chinese NOx emission control market, as well as providing an excellent reference for installing the BOFA technology on corner-fired boiler units."

This contract further boosts Mitsui Babcock's recent success in the BOFA market in Europe where projects totalling £65m ($123m) have been ordered to date.
