Alstom wins fourth Spanish CCGT from Gas Natural

31 July 2006 - Alstom has won contracts worth more than €300m ($382m) with Spanish utility Gas Natural to build, operate and maintain a 400 MW combined cycle power plant in Malaga, Spain.

Alstom will deliver an integrated turnkey power plant solution featuring proven in-house technology, including a GT26 gas turbine, steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator and TOPGAS turbogenerator. Alstom will also be responsible for the civil works, balance of plant and the construction of a 13 km water pipeline and 5 km gas pipeline. Under the associated operation and maintenance contract, Alstom will provide full operation and maintenance services for a period of 12 years.

The construction of the plant will begin in July 2006 and is scheduled for completion in August 2008.

This is the fourth turnkey combined-cycle plant and sixth GT26 engine that Gas Natural has ordered from Alstom in recent years. In 1999, Alstom won similar contracts for two 400 MW combined cycle plants at San Roque (Cadiz) and Sant Adria de Besos (Barcelona). In 2003, Alstom won the contract to build a 1200 MW plant at Cartagena. All three plants are currently fully operated and maintained by Alstom.

Philippe Joubert, President Alstom PT/PE, commented: "We are proud of the confidence Gas Natural places in Alstom. This new contract proves our ability to meet its needs for power equipment and to offer solutions that bring a good balance between investment, performance, lead times, operating flexibility and easy maintenance, adding value throughout the lifetime of the plant."
