EVN ties up loans for hydropower projects

26 July 2006 - Electricity of Vietnam has secured loans amounting to VND3tn ($191m) towards the construction of the A Vuong and An Khe Ka Nak hydropower plants. Credit loans agreements were signed with four domestic banks, including BIDV, Vietcombank, Incombank and AgriBank, as well as Petrol Vietnam Finance Company.

Of the capital, more than VND1.6tn is earmarked for A Vuong hydropower plant, with a designed capacity of 210 MW and an annual electricity generation of 807 million Khw. The construction began in August 2003 and is slated for completion
by August 2008. It is located on A Vuong and Boung rivers in central Quang Nam Province.

The remaining VND1.4tn is for An Khe Ka Nak hydropower plant, with a capacity of 173 MW and annual electricity generation of 682 million kWh. The construction began early this year and will be finished in four years. The plant is located on the Ba River in Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands).

Speaking at the signing ceremony, EVN's deputy director general Dinh Quang Tri said that domestic loans were an important finance source in helping EVN meet the increasing demand for power.
