New peak demand records set for California, Midwest ISOs

18 July 2006 -- The Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. on Monday met a demand of 132,658 MW in its reliability footprint, breaking the record of 131,434 MW set on August 3, 2005.

Also breaking records, the California Independent System Operator Corp. successfully met peak demand on Monday. The California ISO said the system load is currently in excess of 46,000 MW and still climbing. The previous record of 45,431 MW was set this same week last year on July 20, 2005.

This follows a weekend of record-setting demand numbers across the United States as more electricity is being used than ever before.
