17 July 2006 -- Pepco Energy Services, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded two contracts by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply 400 MW of electricity to more than 100 federal government buildings in Washington, D.C. and Chicago.
The Washington, D.C. contract which begins in October, 2006 and extends for 38 months calls for Pepco Energy Services to provide power to such national landmarks as the U.S. Capitol, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art and the Kennedy Center, as well as the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Energy, Interior, Justice, Labor, State, Transportation and the Treasury. Three percent of the electricity purchased will be generated from renewable resources.
Beginning in January, 2007, Pepco Energy Services will also begin supplying electricity to several government agencies in Chicago, Illinois including the General Services Administration, the Social Security Administration, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Bureau of Prisons and the Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Affairs Hospital. Five percent of the electricity purchased will be generated from renewable resources over the five year contract.
