4 July 2006 - British Nuclear Group, the nuclear site management, decommissioning and clean-up specialist, has announced profits of £72m ($132.5m) on gross revenue (including Site Licence Company costs under management) of £2.01bn in its first full year as a management and operations contractor.
British Nuclear Group, which operates 14 nuclear licensed sites in the UK under contract to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), also achieved savings and additional revenue generation for its customer of £138m from its operations against its first year plan.
British Nuclear Group's Chief Executive, Lawrie Haynes, said: "These results are the first hard and fast evidence of British Nuclear Group's profitability and are an excellent indication of the viability of the competitive clean-up market that has been created by the NDA in the UK.
"As British Nuclear Group has clearly demonstrated with these significant cost savings, this model is delivering improved value to the UK taxpayer through focused, accelerated clean-up work.
"Full credit for British Nuclear Group's results must go to our employees whose expertise, hard work and innovation have helped us and our customer have such a successful year," said Mr Haynes.
On 31 March this year, BNFL received permission from the Government to proceed with the sale of British Nuclear Group, a process, which is expected to be concluded by autumn 2007.
