First Braes of Doune turbines erected

15 June 2006 - The first of 36 wind turbines at the Braes of Doune wind farm in Stirlingshire, Scotland have been erected. Irish renewable energy company Airtricity is developing the 72 MW wind farm.

All of the electricity generated will be supplied to Scottish Gas, a subsidiary of Centrica plc.

The V80 turbines are manufactured in Scotland by Vestas in Campbeltown.
All 36 turbines will be erected over the summer and the wind farm should
be operational by the end of the year.

The wind farm will generate electricity for 45 000 Scottish Gas customers, contributing to the Scottish Executive's green target by mitigating around 173 000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
