9 May 2006 - Looking to solve the issues associated with using multiple grades of coal in its existing boiler, Ameren Corporation has awarded a contract for the upgrade of its Duck Creek Unit 1 coal fired power plant in Illinois, US.
The contract was awarded to Riley Power, a subsidiary of Babcock Power, which will modify the boiler to provide fuel flexibility and improve performance on both Illinois bituminous and PRB coals.
The $40m project will also see the superheater, reheater and economizer sections redesigned and replaced. The pulverizer will be modified to accommodate reliable PRB operation.
Riley Power's scope includes boiler modifications to improve reliability, provide fuel flexibility and improve boiler performance on both Illinois bituminous and PRB coals. The project consists of redesigning and replacing the superheater, reheater and economizer sections, combined with pulverizer modifications, to accommodate reliable PRB operation. The equipment is planned to be operational in the second half of 2007.
