Areva delivers world's largest furnace transformers and reactors

2 May 2006 - The world's largest electric arc furnace transformers and reactors have just been delivered by Areva T&D to a customer in Turkey.

Areva's manufacturing plant in Gebze, Turkey, delivered the first 240/265 MVA Electric Arc Furnace transformer and 77.4 MVAr reactor to the Turkish company Colakoglu. This delivery was part of a contract worth over €4m ($5.5m) to Areva.

Specifically designed for a steel scrap melting plant in Gebze/Kocaelï (Turkey), the transformer will contribute to melting 250 tonnes of scrap per cycle, each cycle being 45 minutes.

Areva believes the combined 240/265 MVA Electric Arc Furnace transformer and 77.4 MVAr reactor, are the world's largest of their kind.

Sami Sevinc, Country President for Areva T&D in Turkey, said: "Areva Enerji has the biggest transformer manufacturing factory in the Areva Group, and connects energy from generation to end-user. It produces a whole range of power transformers, distribution transformers, primary distribution switchgears, systems and services."
