1 May 2006 -- Startech Environmental Corp. announced today that it has successfully completed the first of the two-phase U.S. Department of Energy program that has as its focus on the production of plasma converted gas (PCG) from processing coal and municipal solid waste in the plasma converter for the production of hydrogen. Phase two, now in progress, is focused on the separation of hydrogen from the PCG synthesis gas mixture using the Company's StarCell system.

U.S. DOE's stated goal is to have a zero emissions, high-efficiency coal production power plant by 2015 that will produce hydrogen from coal along with electricity.

Joseph F. Longo, president of Startech, said, "Hydrogen we produce from coal and wastes using Startech's system can be used to produce electricity without pollution or greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide. Hydrogen is the most pristine of all fuels and when it is used for electrical power what results is just plain water."
