26 April 2006 - E.ON has received antitrust approval from the European Commission for its €29.1bn ($36bn) bid for Endesa, that was announced in February earlier this year.
The Commission granted its approval after it concluded that the transaction would have no negative effects on competition in European energy markets.
E.ON's chief executive Wulf Bernotat, said: "This approval is granted without any condition. It represents one of the key steps in the takeover process and also furthers the EU's vision to develop a pan-European energy market."
The German power company submitted its proposal to Spain's Comisión Nacional de Energía on 19 April and is confident that all further regulatory requirements will be met to enable the takeover to proceed.
