25 April 2006 - Centrica's North American subsidiary has invested further in the Texan power market by acquiring the customer base of Entergy Solutions for $30m.

The deal will see over 100 000 residential and commercial customers in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas and South Texas. The acquisition increases Direct Energy's Texas customer base to over 1 million customers.

The purchase cements Direct Energy's position as the third largest energy provider in Texas.

Sir Roy Gardnder, chief executive of Centrica, said: "Following the acquisition earlier this year of the Paris Energy Centre, which is Centrica's third power station in Texas, today's transaction further strengthens our commitment to this important market."
