EIA releases report on biomass energy in the forest products industry

21 April 2006 -- The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released a one-time report April 20 providing information on future technologies used in the forest products industry and how they will affect the production and use of biomass.

The report highlights some of the most important issues in the forestry business and uncovers important developments in economic trends, technology and public policy that influences how biomass is currently used and how it can be used in the future.

The report outlines issues facing the paper, wood, lumber and other forestry industries. It also discusses current biomass technologies in the pulp and paper business. Some new technologies addressed are black liquor gasification and forest products biorefinery, fluidized bed boilers, closed-looop energy systems for wood products and cogeneration units at lumber mills. The report also offers information and analysis regarding environmental regulations and their impact on the biomass industry.
