12 April 2006 - The Saudi Arabian state oil company Saudi Aramco has awarded a $170m EPC contract to South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries to build a gas turbine power generation plant.
"This project has leveraged Hyundai Heavy's position as a major contractor of the power plant sector in the Middle East and increased our opportunities to compete for and win more projects in the region," said Suh Young-Kil, executive vice president of Hyundai Heavy's Industrial Plant & Engineering Division.
The plant will consist of three 65 MW gas turbine units and electricity facilities and is due for completion by 2008. The facilities include a switchyard supplying captive electricity to the gas and oil separation plant of Saudi Aramco to be located at Shaybah in Saudi Arabia.
Two years ago, Hyundai won a $450m turnkey contract for Saudi Aramco's four cogeneration plants due to be handed over this year.
