10 April 2006 - A joint Indian and Russian committee is to be formed to oversee the completion of a 2000 MW nuclear power plant in India, according to the chief of the Russian Federal Agency of Atomic Energy.
Mr Kiriyenko announced the formation of a partnership at a press conference held with the chairman of India's Atomic Energy Commission, Anil Kakodkar.
The two countries expect to give further details of the Kudankulam nuclear power project by mid-May. The plant will consist of two 1000 MW units, which will be commissioned at separate stages.
During the Russian delegation's visit to India, further cooperation on future nuclear power projects was discussed with the Indian representatives.
