Fuel shortage causes plant shutdown in Indonesia

7 April 2006 - Indonesia is to experience a second day of power shortages after a fuel shortage meant that six generators at a gas and steam power plant in Jakarta would continue to remain idle.

PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said there would be a 250 MW power shortage in Java and Bali due to delays in the supply of high sulphur diesel fuel from the state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina.

The six generators at the 840 MW Muara Tawar power plant consume around 4000 kilolitres of fuel each day.

PLN expects the plant to be operating as normal on Tuesday 11 April after it receives a delivery from PT Pertamina on Sunday 9.

To make up for the part of the shortfall the shutdown has caused, PLN has requested some supply from the natural gas fired Cilacap plant, which has yet to enter commercial operation.
