German power producers make plant data public

7 April 2006 - Four German power producers are to play a pioneering role in making wholesale electricity trading more transparent by publishing data from their power plants on the website of the European Energy Exchange.

From Monday 10 April, EnBW, E.ON, RWE and Vattenfall will make available all production-relevant data with the intention of enhancing the efficiency of wholesale trading and promoting competition.

Announcing their new policy the four parties called on all German and European power plant operators to join the initiative in the belief that it is the only way to achieve a comprehensive view of the market.

Alongside the installed capacity data already made available, generation capacity will be published on a daily basis and broken down by energy source, followed, by a certain lag, by the amounts of electricity produced per hour.

The voluntary initiative publishes data from electrical power plants generating 20 MW or more.
