Alstom to upgrade major hydro plant in Canada

6 April 2006 - Alstom has been awarded an €18m ($22m) contract to upgrade two generators at a 2730 MW hydroelectric power plant in British Colombia, Canada.

Under the terms of the contract, Alstom will increase the output of two of the plant's ten generators by 34 per cent, from 239 MVA to 321 MVA and improve the reliability of the machines.

The upgrading work will include supplying new stators and coolers, with Alstom's Hydro unit in Tracy, Canada, being in charge of manufacturing, installation and commissioning of the project. The first unit is scheduled for delivery in August 2007 and the last for June 2008.

The GM Shrum hydroelectric generating station is owned by British Colombia Hydro and Authority and is located on the Peace River near Revelstoke. It was commissioned in the late 1960s and produces a total of 2730 MW from ten units.
