5 April 2006 - GE Energy has become the first gas turbine manufacturer in the world to be awarded a certificate for a fleet, which frees it from the obligation of getting approval for each individual turbine it produces.
The company's manufacturing facility in Belfort, France was awarded the ATEX certification for its Frame 6B, 6FA and 9E machines by Lloyds. It expects the 'passport' to result in reduced delivery times.
Yves Menat, general manager of GE Energy at Belfort, said: "The certification enables our customers to meet the legal requirements while minimizing their costs and delivery times to entry into service. It greatly simplifies the approval process for entry into industrial service."
ATEX is a European directive that applies to protection products and systems for use in explosive atmospheres. The name is derived from the French expression 'Atmosphére Explosible'. It has been compulsory for all products and systems sold within the European Union for use in this type of environment since 1 July 2003.
