Canadian government trials 10 kWh storage system

4 April 2006 - VRB Power Systems 10 kWh energy storage system could soon be used by a number of Canadian government agencies after the company supplied its first system to the country's National Research Council.

The Council will use the 10 kWh VRB-ESS to assess remote wind-diesel applications and the potential of VRB Power's products in other governmental off-grid areas.

Tim Hennessy, CEO of VRB Power believes the delivery of the company's first 10 kWh system is a sign for the year ahead.

Hennessy said: "Production at the Richmond facility will increase steadily throughout 2006 reaching full capacity of approximately 2500 five kW cell stacks and approximately 300 fifty kW cell stacks per year in late 2007.

VRB has also recently completed the assembly and has commissioned the 30 kW x 2-hour system for the South Carolina Air National Guard. This system will be used for backup power and to provide power quality enhancement for a tactical radar system in the event of grid disruption.
