8 February 2006 - Siemens is to invest over €50m ($59.9m) expanding its wind turbine manufacturing capabilities in Denmark in response to continued growth worldwide.
The three-part plan has seen the company acquire a former LM fibreglass factory at Engesvang for rotor blade manufacturing. It will also invest in the assembly plant at its wind power arm's headquarters in Brande and in its rotor blade manufacturing facility in Aalborg.
The newly acquired factory in Engesvang, with floor space of 18 000 square metres, is located halfway between the assembly plant in Brande and the rotor facility in Aalborg. Production at the new factory will begin early this year.
Siemens has experienced sharp growth in the wind energy sector. Compared to the previous year, in 2005 it nearly doubled its wind turbine sales, selling almost 630 MW of turbine capacity. Its fabrication capacity for 2006 is almost fully booked.
Andreas Nauen, head of the wind power division at Siemens PG, said: "Expansion of our capacities in Denmark is the first step in building up a worldwide manufacturing network."
