7 November 2005 - Fortum has continued to make inroads into the liberalizing energy market in Poland by agreeing a deal to acquire its fourth heating company in the country.
The deal, reached with the city of Plock, will see Fortum purchase the city's district heating company Plocka Energetyka Cieplna Sp. z.o.o. If the Polish Competition Authority grants its approval as expected within the next few weeks, Fortum's Polish portfolio will have aggregate net sales approaching €130m ($153.5m) and annual heat sales of 3900 GWh.
Located 120 km northwest of Warsaw, Plock's heating company generates annual net sales of approximately €13m with annual heat sales amounting to 500 GWh.
The deal is Fortum's second acquisition in Poland in a matter of weeks. At the end of October the company signed a contract with the city of Wroclaw to acquire a majority holding in the city's district heating company MPEC Wroclaw S.A.
