Hydro-Quebec calls for 2000 MW of wind power

1 November 2005 - Hydro-Quebec Distribution aims to add 2000 MW of wind capacity to the province's grid over the next eight years.

The company issued a tender for projects that could begin delivering wind power between 1 December 2009 and 1 December 2013. Project developers would be rewarded with power purchase contracts valid for between 15 and 25 years.

Hydro-Quebec has broken the 2000 MW target into separate lots spread over five years. It requires 300 MW to begin generation in 2009, 400 MW in 2010 and 2011 and 450 MW to start in 2012 and 2013.

Pre-bid conferences will take place between 26 and 27 January 2006 and the deadline for bids to be submitted is 17 April 2007.

When the 2000 MW total has been added, by 2014, the company will have a total installed wind power capacity of nearly 3500 MW.
