16 June 2005 - Chubu Electric Power, the utility serving the Chubu region and the third largest in Japan, plans to increase sales of cogeneration systems used for commercial facilities such as supermarkets and shopping centres.
The company will market systems that use inverter-style air conditioning equipment developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Chubu Electric supplied its first cogeneration system to a large Aeon Co. shopping centre that opened in Nagoya in May. The system is expected to reduce the normal level of energy consumption by roughly 30 per cent. The company shouldered the initial introductory expenses, but it will collect monthly electricity and equipment usage fees from Aeon.
Depending on the building's location, the system can use underground water, which has a stable temperature, to cool the air conditioning equipment. This arrangement boosts system efficiency.
