24 December 2004 - Saudi Arabia's undersecretary for electricity affairs at the Water & Electricity Ministry, Salih bin Hussain Alawaji, has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the Dammam-based GCC Interconnection Authority (GCCIA)

Salih and other board members from GCC countries were elected during the second ordinary general assembly of the GCCIA on 19 December.

The authority is due to release tender documents in early January on the estimated $1.19bn phase 1 of the electricity grid project, which will link the power networks of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.
