Aveva strike alliance to increase speed and accuracy

17 November 2004 - Aveva Group plc has formed a technical alliance with BitWyse Solutions, Inc. that will mean users of Aveva's Vantage Plant Design Management System (PDMS) are able to view existing conditions data, project dimensional control and fabrication information within both the PDMS 3D and Review environments.

Under the agreement, Aveva, a supplier of plant design and engineering lifecycle solutions, will link to BitWyse's LaserGen, a data management company for engineering and construction plant design, allowing customers to use raw scan data within minutes of the data being captured.

It is thought by Aveva that as more capital budget is being allocated to revamping existing plants, plant owners and their EPC contractors are recognizing the need to quickly capture accurate as-built plant information for use as the primary design reference.

Mark Klusza, president of BitWyse said, "Revamp projects pose a number of challenges to EPCs and Owner/Operators. Even if you have the digital 3D model of the facility, there will be many variations."

LaserGen will facilitate the display of point clouds from multiple scanner formats within PDMS and Review, allowing the user to both view and interact with the 3D model and laser scanned point cloud data in a single design environment.
