Enel set to acquire Slovenské Elektrarne

15 November 2004 - Enel has announced that negotiations with the Slovakian government for the purchase of a stake in the country's main power producer have reached a positive conclusion.

The agreement to acquire a 66 per cent stake in Slovenské Elektrarne for a sum of €840m ($1.1bn) will now be submitted to the relevant Slovak authorities for definitive approval.

Both economic and governance conditions agreed to have met strict criteria and Enel feel they are well placed to develop a company that is already developing positive operating results.

Paolo Scaroni, Enel's chief executive, said, "As one of the largest electricity companies in the world, Enel has the resources, vision and experience to enhance SE's operations and strengthen its role as an important regional hub."
