French look to ABB to help AC

9 November 2004 - ABB has won a turnkey contract worth $15m to install Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS) technology in France.

Awarded by RTE, the French transmission system operator, the contract will seek to improve the efficiency of the transmission system and increase grid reliability in north-western France, thus ensuring voltage stability in the region.

The contract includes the provision of two SVC, which will be located in Brittany close to the cities of Saint Brieu and Lorient. The project is scheduled for completion in 2005.
