Argentina creates state owned energy company

22 October 2004 - The Argentine senate have approved the creation of a state owned energy company, Energia Argentina SA (Enarsa).

The state will control 53 per cent of Enarsa's equity capital, provincial governments will own 12 per cent of its shares and the remaining 35 per cent will be listed on the Buenos Aires stock exchange.

Enarsa will operate in all the energy areas, including oil, gas, electricity, nuclear power and non-conventional energy such as hydrogen.

It will also carry out feasibility studies and has the faculty to explore, exploit, transport, distribute and market oil and gas, as well as generate, transport, distribute and market electric energy.
