22 October 2004 - China Huaneng Enterprise Group has signed a contract with Shantou Dannan Co in Nan'ao County of Guangdong for the construction of two offshore wind farms, expected to be built in the Nan'ao Sea in South China's Guangdong Province. They would be the first offshore wind power facilities in China.

The two projects involve a total investment of 2 billion yuan ($241.6m), and are designed to be located offshore at Houjianglongmen and Fengyu. The first construction phase is expected to be completed by 2007, with an installed capacity of 100 MW. The project will be completed by 2009.

China has a huge wind energy resource of more than 250,000, according to its Ministry of Electric Power. The largest windpower facility in China is presently the Dabanchen Power Plant in Xinjiang sheng, which has more than 100 wind turbines for a total installed capacity of more than 50 MW.
